About

I tell stories, ask silly questions, make funny noises and faces, jump around and play a lot of peek-a-boo. It’s not uncommon for me to look completely crazy trying to get a real reaction from a child. I want them to look straight into my camera so it’s always my goal to get expressions myself first without the help of a parent. I don’t just want smiles, I want personality even if it means I have to get grass stains on my knees, flip off my shoes to run faster, fake sneeze 34 times in a row or skin up my elbows.

Parents, just relax and have fun with me. Children can sense when their parents are relaxed and it’s alright if you need to hang back a little, sometimes kids are better when their parents are out of sight. Let me take the lead.

Patience is a virtue so I always allow time for a snacks or drinks. Sometimes I need one too! Also, meltdowns happen and it’s okay! A few minutes does wonders and I’ll never end a session during a meltdown.

When you get your gallery, I want the first thing you say is “that’s totally my child”. That doesn’t require a perfectly pleated dress, fancy shoes or old fashioned posing.

I want it to be real.

My photography story began at Iowa State University with a second-hand Canon film camera and endless hours in the darkroom. Being able to control elements like light, focus, angle, perspective and replication changed everything for me.

I’m married to the love of my life, Luke, and together we have three beautiful children: Harper, Boston and Barrett. We live on an acreage in Casey with a big yard for playing, pond for fishing, and hay bales for jumping. My heart is so happy, my lap is always full, and there is nothing better than that.

I started something 😬 It’s always scary when you do something new. Will it work the way I’ve intended it to? Will people see the value in it the way I hope they will? But here it goes anyway…

Introducing…my own Like To Know page!

You could be wondering what the heck this is. If you’ve done much shopping online in the last few years via social media influencers you might have come across the Like to Know (LTK) app. It’s a great place for people to find fashion, makeup, skincare, home decor, and so much more. Creators post links to items they love (or are paid to promote) and users can favorite products and shop via the provided links.

For so many years I’ve helped my clients pick outfits for maternity, newborn, family, kids, and even senior sessions. Sure, outfits aren’t everything, but they can absolutely take a simple mini session to the next level. I have guides that can help with outfit selection but honestly, people don’t read them or it just leaves them wondering where to start. Quite a few photographers have huge client closets they provide access to for their clients. Thousands of dollars worth of dresses and clothes. But I just couldn’t justify that avenue.

Insert, LTK! While walking on the treadmill last week I thought, what if I had an LTK site where I could post outfit inspo to anyone, for everyone? I could coordinate family outfit ideas and share them, not only with my clients, but with anyone needing to dress a family of 3 or 4 or 10+. I could find some really fun outfits for high school senior girls and guys to help elevate their sessions. Outfits that really look good when photographed - there’s a difference. Wouldn’t this make their life just a little bit easier? (Read more in the comments)
